Transparency: this is a cross-referenced launch-day build, not our own save-file test. GamesRadar and IGN recommend different exact skill sets, but both favor abilities used constantly over a specialized late-game combo. We combine their overlap below and label the alternatives.
The quick build
| Slot | Early priority | Why it earns the slot |
|---|---|---|
| Emma core | Upgrade Shakuyaku; add Roll | Your repeatable basic attack and universal defense are useful in every encounter. |
| Emma punish | Helm Splitter or Iaido | IGN highlights both as early melee picks; choose the one that fits your timing rather than buying every branch at once. |
| Emma utility | Sprout Shakuyaku or Tracking Shot | Take binding/grapple utility for close combat, or ranged tracking and piercing if you prefer safer spacing. |
| Koo control | Taunt | Pulls attention away from Emma and remains useful in boss fights. |
| Koo damage | Higanbana: Seeds | Builds Burn and directly exploits early Flame-weak targets, including Rangifer. |
| Koo support | Swamp Summoner or Healing Energy | Choose slowing control when groups are the problem; choose sustain when attrition is the problem. |
Why this build works
The official combat loop makes parrying more than defense: Emma's successful parries generate the points used for Koo's Bloom Arts. That makes a balanced early build stronger than a pure damage rush. Roll covers missed reads, Shakuyaku gives you a dependable attack, and Koo converts clean defense into either control, Flame pressure or breathing room.
- Parry the readable attack to fund Koo's next command.
- Use Taunt or Swamp Summoner when you need to reset pressure or separate a group.
- Use Higanbana: Seeds against tough enemies, especially when Flame weakness is confirmed.
- Spend the opening with Emma using Shakuyaku, Helm Splitter or Iaido rather than firing every skill at once.

Emma skill priorities
1. A move you use constantly
GamesRadar puts Blade Art: Shakuyaku first because it is a basic attack you use frequently. This is the safest place for early investment: value is not tied to one enemy type or a rare condition.
2. One defense and one punish
IGN's launch guide highlights Roll, Helm Splitter and Iaido. Roll is the universal safety pick. For offense, test Helm Splitter and Iaido before committing deeply; an early build needs one dependable punish, not every adjacent node.
3. Pick close-control or ranged flexibility
Sprout Shakuyaku combines an attack with binding and a grapple point, while Tracking Shot improves ranged accuracy, piercing and damage. Take Sprout if you stay close and use movement routes; take Tracking Shot if groups or flying/distant targets are slowing you down.
Koo skill priorities
- Taunt: the most general early control tool and the only active Koo skill named by both GamesRadar and IGN's launch coverage.
- Higanbana: Seeds: a broadly useful fire projectile and Burn builder. Its early payoff is concrete because Rangifer is Flame-weak.
- Swamp Summoner: creates slowing swamps, buying time against groups and making Emma's next action easier to place.
- Healing Energy / Status Effect Amp: IGN's early passive-mod recommendations; use sustain while learning, then lean into status amplification once your elemental loop is consistent.
Early gear and upgrade order
- Enhance the weapons you already use. Camps and the Cleanse Walker workbench let you spend Amber on melee damage, ranged damage and ammo capacity.
- Do not ignore Bauera. Weapon enhancement quickly hits caps tied to the Cleanse Walker's Power, Calculations and Knowledge. Explore strongboxes and Koo-marked valuables for the materials that raise those stats.
- Get ranged coverage. IGN's first-zone checklist specifically calls out the Zangetsu Bow, Light Mechblade and Acid Bolts.
- Match Spirit Stones to actions you actually perform. Official material says these effects trigger from combat actions. A modest effect that triggers constantly is better early than an impressive effect your playstyle rarely activates.
- Cook before a difficult route or boss. IGN includes cooking among the first-zone priorities; use it as preparation, not a substitute for keeping weapons and core skills current.
Rangifer version of the build
What not to spend around yet
- Unverified numerical breakpoints. We have not found a reliable source for early stat caps, percentage thresholds or an optimal level-by-level point route.
- A named Spirit Stone package. Public launch guides confirm the system, but the early inventory and exact acquisition order are still being mapped.
- A respec assumption. Until the reset system and its cost are verified, buy high-frequency fundamentals before deep specialization.
