Game won't launch / crashes on startup (PC)
Short version below — full walkthrough with live status: crash on launch fix guide.
- Verify game files: Steam → right-click the game → Properties → Installed Files → Verify integrity of game files. Fixes corrupted downloads, the most common launch-day crash cause.
- Update GPU drivers: NVIDIA/AMD typically ship game-ready drivers for major releases within a day of launch. Install the newest driver before deeper troubleshooting.
- Check the supported baseline: Steam now lists Windows 10/11 at minimum, DirectX 12, 16 GB RAM and an SSD. Compare the full official requirements before treating a startup failure as a game bug.
- Disable overlays: Discord, GeForce Experience, Steam overlay and RGB software are classic UE5 crash triggers. Disable them one by one.
- Clear shader cache: UE5 games precompile shaders on first boot; an interrupted first launch can corrupt the cache. Delete the game's cache folder (path published here at launch) and reboot the game.
- Launch as admin + whitelist in antivirus: new executables get false-flagged in launch week regularly.
Black screen with audio
- Alt+Enter to toggle fullscreen — resolves most black-screen-on-boot cases in UE5 titles.
- Disconnect secondary monitors for first launch, then reconnect.
- Force windowed mode via launch options (exact flag confirmed here at launch).
Stuttering and low FPS
- Let shader compilation finish: first-hour stutter in UE5 games is usually shader compilation — it settles after the opening area.
- Use upscaling: DLSS/FSR (confirmed options published at launch) at Quality tier is the standard 60fps lever.
- Install on SSD: current-gen asset streaming stutters hard from HDDs.
- Settings guide is live: official performance targets plus sourced community benchmarks by GPU — best settings guide.
Controller not working (PC)
Short version below — full walkthrough including Game Pass pairing and known pad quirks: controller guide.
- Steam → Settings → Controller → enable Steam Input for your pad type.
- Disconnect extra input devices (wheels, flight sticks) that steal controller slot 1.
- If playing via Game Pass on PC, check the Xbox app's controller pairing rather than Steam settings.
Pre-order bonus / Deluxe content missing
- PS5: Settings → Users and Accounts → Other → Restore Licenses, then restart the game.
- Xbox: ensure the bonus DLC shows as installed under Manage game & add-ons.
- Steam: right-click game → Properties → DLC → confirm the bonus pack is checked; see the editions guide for what you should have.
Save data & cloud sync
Cloud save support details (Steam Cloud, cross-device behavior on Game Pass) will be confirmed at launch. Until then: don't play the same save from two devices simultaneously during launch week — early sync bugs are how saves get eaten.
