Short answer: there is no native 21:9, 32:9 or 16:10 support in Beast of Reincarnation at launch. Ultrawide displays render a 16:9 image with black bars at the sides. On August 5 a publisher community manager replied in the Steam forums that the team has heard the feedback and plans to fix ultrawide support as soon as possible — no date, no version number. There is currently no official in-game toggle or launch flag that changes this.
What's confirmed right now
| Question | Status at day 2 | Evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Native 21:9 / 32:9 rendering | Not supported — pillarboxed 16:9 with side bars | Two separate Steam threads with 180+ and 6+ replies; no player has posted a working native-21:9 screenshot |
| 16:10 (e.g. 2560×1600 laptops) | Not supported | Reported in the official Steam bug thread, Aug 5 |
| Official fix planned | Yes — publicly committed, undated | Publisher community manager reply in the Steam ultrawide thread, Aug 5 |
| First PC patch | Being planned, timing not announced | Same community manager in the official bug thread, Aug 5: "planning the first patch for PC-specific fixes" |
| Resolution list capped at 1080p | Unconfirmed / partial — affects some wide and high-res panels, not everyone | Multiple reports; other players confirm 4K selects normally on 16:9 |
The separate bug: "my resolution won't go above 1080p"
These are two different problems and they get mixed together in every thread, so it's worth separating them.
- Aspect ratio: the game renders 16:9 and letterboxes anything wider. This affects every ultrawide owner equally and is the thing the developers have committed to fixing.
- Resolution list: a smaller group reports that the in-game resolution dropdown only offers 1920×1080 and never exposes their native mode. One reporter on a 45-inch 21:9 OLED describes exactly this. Crucially, other players pushed back and confirmed 4K works fine for them on standard displays — so this is not a global 1080p cap.
Best current read of the evidence: the resolution enumeration appears to fail on panels whose native mode isn't a standard 16:9 resolution. That is our inference from the reports, not an official statement — treat it as unconfirmed until the developers or a patch note say otherwise.
Things worth trying if you're stuck at 1080p
- Set your desktop to a standard 16:9 mode first (1920×1080 or 2560×1440 on a 16:9 monitor, or the closest 16:9 mode your ultrawide accepts), then launch the game. UE5 titles usually enumerate from the current desktop mode.
- Try borderless/windowed rather than exclusive fullscreen. In windowed mode the game takes the window size instead of a display mode, which sidesteps a broken mode list. Alt+Enter toggles it in most UE5 games.
- Check that your monitor is running at its native mode in Windows Display Settings — a monitor left on a scaled or non-native mode will hand the game a shorter list.
- Disable display scaling overrides in the NVIDIA Control Panel or AMD Software (set scaling to "No scaling" / GPU-side) and relaunch.
None of these are official fixes and none of them add 21:9 rendering. They only address the case where the game won't offer you a resolution you should have.
What about third-party ultrawide tools?
Community members are experimenting with the usual external widescreen utilities and frame-scaling apps. We are not listing specific tools or config edits as a "fix" yet, for three reasons: nobody has posted a reproducible result for this game, the HUD and cutscene framing in a game this cinematic tends to break before the render does, and an official patch is already committed. If a community solution becomes reliably reproducible and safe, it will be documented here with the source attached.
Is it playable with black bars?
Yes — the game runs normally, you simply lose the horizontal real estate. You are seeing the same field of view a 16:9 player sees. Note that there is also no FOV slider in the settings menu, which is a separate ongoing complaint with its own active Steam thread, so you can't widen the view that way either. If the bars bother you, some monitors can be set to a 16:9 sub-mode so the image occupies the centre of the panel at 1:1 pixel mapping rather than being stretched.
