Balance changed on August 9. Update 1.0.7 lists "various balance adjustments to bosses across all difficulty levels", plus separate adjustments to enemy encounters on Normal difficulty. The official notes don't itemise which bosses changed, so treat the difficulty impressions and level recommendations below as launch-week (pre-1.0.7) — weaknesses, attack tells and rewards are unaffected. See the patch notes tracker.
Late-game spoilers. Ursa is a Chapter 10 story boss. This page names the location, phases and rewards — turn back if you want them fresh.
Quick strategy: Fight Ursa as a melee parry duel — parry the multi-swipe combo, dodge the boulders and vine blooms, and apply corrosives or Restrain whenever there's an opening. Drain the first bar to trigger the flower transformation, then keep the same dip-in, dip-out rhythm through the second bar until the Lethal prompt appears.

Before the fight: the approach

There's no shortcut into the lair — the run-up throws three Grizzly Malefacts at you before the real fight begins. By Chapter 10 you'll have fought plenty of regular Grizzly Malefacts, so Ursa's silhouette and swings will feel familiar; the difference is raw damage and the second form. Ursa guards the center of its lair and aggros the moment Emma steps inside, and it cannot be stealth killed, so go in with your loadout ready:

  • Build around melee. Parrying the swipe combo is your most reliable source of damage windows and Flow Points. A bow or crossbow is a fine backup for chip damage — just watch your ammo so you're not reloading mid-combo.
  • Bring Restrain effects to lock Ursa in place and open safe damage windows.
  • Stack Acid options. Corrosives chip its health while it recovers; Acid Arrows or a Bottle of Acid for Koo soften it further — this lines up with Game8's listed Acid weakness.
  • Save Koo's Nushi Skills for staggered or restrained moments to burst down the bar.
  • Don't panic if you drop. If Emma goes down, Resurrection can bring her straight back into the fight.

Phase one: the five attacks

All Things How catalogued the phase-one moveset. Each attack has a clear tell — watch the body, not the health bar:

AttackCounter
Leaping lunge that spawns rocky pillars on impactDodge sideways as it leaves the ground
Rock throws hurled at EmmaDodge, or break the boulders before they land
Stomp when you're in closeRoll out from under the paw
AoE vine bloom — vines erupt into blue flowers in all directionsCreate distance while it winds up
Multi-swipe combo ending in a slamParry the swipes, then punish the recovery — the easiest and most rewarding parry window

Each successful parry feeds points into Koo's techniques, so lean on the swipe combo rather than avoiding it. Between attacks, the rhythm is the same one that carries the whole fight: wait for Ursa to finish a move, close in and hit during the recovery, then back off the instant it starts winding up again.

The transformation and phase two

When the first health bar hits zero, don't relax — Ursa collapses, glows with golden particles, and sheds its outer shell to reveal a massive blooming flower with vine-like tentacles. Phase two starts with a fresh full health bar.

  • Every phase-one attack carries over, stronger. Same tells, more damage — the reactions you drilled in phase one still work.
  • The arena gets busier. Any time Ursa strikes the ground, it grows a large vine tipped with a blue flower. Movement matters more than ever — keep repositioning so the vines don't box you in.
  • Keep the debuffs flowing. Restrain and corrosives stay just as effective in the second phase; keep applying them in the recovery windows.

How the fight ends

Once the second health bar is nearly empty, a Lethal prompt appears as Emma sets up the finishing strike — she leaps onto the flower and drives her sword into its core, triggering the Ursa's End cutscene. The creature hardens into a peaceful, glowing flora structure, the dark fog lifts from the forest, and Chapter 10's Nushi hunt is done.

Rewards: what you capture

Game8's boss table lists the level 46 encounter's skill rewards as:

  • Asagao: Boa II (an upgrade to the Asagao bloom line)
  • Finisher: Asagao

See how captured powers slot into a loadout on the builds guide. As with every late-game entry, we treat single-source reward listings as provisional until a second source or an in-game clear confirms them.

FAQ

What is Ursa's weakness in Beast of Reincarnation?

Acid. Game8's boss table lists Acid as Ursa's elemental weakness, and the launch guide reviewed here independently recommends corrosives, Acid Arrows or a Bottle of Acid for Koo, plus Restrain effects to open safe damage windows.

Where do you fight Ursa?

Ursa is the boss at the end of Chapter 10, fought at boss level 46. Fextralife's boss index places the encounter in the Starfall Tower Zone of the Wasteland Region. The approach to its lair is guarded by three Grizzly Malefacts.

Does Ursa have two phases?

Yes. When its first health bar empties, Ursa collapses, sheds its outer shell and reveals a blooming flower form with vine-like tentacles — and a completely fresh health bar. All first-phase attacks carry over with more damage.

Can you stealth kill Ursa?

No. The launch guide reviewed here reports Ursa cannot be stealth killed, so the fight has to be won head-on.

What do you get for beating Ursa?

Game8's boss table lists the level 46 skill rewards as Asagao: Boa II and the Finisher: Asagao. Beating Ursa also clears the dark fog over the area and completes Chapter 10's Nushi hunt.
