Every cosmetic in the game (launch, v1.0.6)
Three confirmed appearance items exist. Two of them are for Koo, one is for Emma, and none of them drop from gameplay.
| Cosmetic | Who it changes | How to get it | Affects stats? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Oni's Hat | Emma (headwear) | Digital Deluxe Edition ($69.99) | No — appearance only |
| Black Shiba skin | Koo | Digital Deluxe Edition | No |
| Brown Shiba skin | Koo | Pre-order bonus (with 30,000 Amber) — also included in Deluxe | No |
The Deluxe pack contains more than cosmetics — it also carries the Big Dipper sword, 100,000 Amber and a set of vegetable seedlings. Those are covered in full on our editions comparison. Note the overlap: Deluxe already contains the Brown Shiba skin, so the pre-order bonus's unique value was really the 30,000 Amber.
How to claim and equip cosmetics — use the bed
This is the single most common point of confusion, and it is not your fault: nothing in the opening hours tells you the cosmetics menu is attached to a piece of furniture.
- Finish the Prologue / opening flashback. The option genuinely does not exist before this point, so checking early makes it look like the feature is missing.
- Return to your mobile base (the Cleanse Walker) and interact with the bed.
- Choose "Special Content" to redeem edition and pre-order items — the Shiba skins, Oni's Hat, Big Dipper and the Amber grant all arrive here.
- Use the same bed interaction to switch Koo's skin afterwards. Look for the appearance / customisation / skin entry rather than a specific label; the wording differs by platform build.
- Confirm and exit. The change applies immediately in the field.
Cross-checked across two independent launch-week guides (Destructoid, Aug 4; Nerd's Chalk, updated Aug 4, 2026), which describe the same bed → Special Content route.
Does armor change Emma's appearance? No — and here is what actually changes
This is the question that keeps reappearing in the Steam discussion forums, with players giving each other contradictory answers. The evidence points one way.
Emma has armor slots, and armor matters — mechanically. Gear affects defence and your Spirit Stone capacity, and there are named pieces you will find and equip throughout the campaign. What multiple launch-week guides report is that when you equip a different piece, the inventory icon changes and Emma's on-screen model does not. She wears the same outfit from the Prologue to the credits.
So the honest summary is: this game has equipment progression but almost no visual progression. Cosmetic variety is concentrated on Koo.
What changes your look vs. what doesn't
Whether that is a design choice or an omission is a matter of taste — the forum thread that started on August 3 ran to thirteen replies without agreeing. What is worth knowing before you buy is simply that if transmog or outfit collecting is the reason you were interested, this game does not have it.
Cosmetics missing or greyed out — three things to check
- Are you past the Prologue? The bed's Special Content option is gated behind it. This accounts for most "the option isn't there" reports.
- Do you actually own the item? The Brown Shiba skin was the pre-order bonus. Buying the Standard Edition after launch does not grant it. The Black Shiba skin and Oni's Hat require Deluxe.
- Is the add-on installed on the account you are playing on? On PC and console alike, entitlement has to match the signed-in account. Physical PS5 buyers must redeem the included product code first. If the items are owned and installed but still absent, see the DLC entitlement fix on our fixes tracker — the publisher shipped a fix for a pre-order entitlement listing bug on August 6, 2026.
Cosmetics FAQ
How do you get Oni's Hat in Beast of Reincarnation?
It is a Digital Deluxe Edition item. There is no in-game unlock, no boss drop and no shop. Deluxe owners claim it from the bed's Special Content menu after the Prologue.
Does armor change Emma's appearance in Beast of Reincarnation?
No. Equipping different armor changes your stats and the inventory icon; Emma's model keeps the same outfit for the entire game, per multiple launch-week guides and corroborating player reports.
How many cosmetics are in Beast of Reincarnation?
Three appearance items at launch: two Koo skins and one hat for Emma. All three come from paid editions or the former pre-order bonus.
Can you buy cosmetics in Beast of Reincarnation?
No in-game cosmetic storefront exists and no microtransactions have been announced. Several players on the Steam forums have specifically praised this while criticising the lack of unlockable outfits — both things are true at once.
Do Koo skins change his stats or abilities?
No. They are visual only and do not affect his skills, damage or role in combat.
Can I get the pre-order Brown Shiba skin now?
Only by buying the Digital Deluxe Edition, which includes it permanently. It is no longer granted with post-launch Standard Edition purchases.
Will more cosmetics be added?
Game Freak has publicly committed to continued post-launch updates, but no cosmetic additions have been announced. We track every confirmed change on the patch notes tracker.
