Balance changed on August 9. Update 1.0.7 lists "various balance adjustments to bosses across all difficulty levels", plus separate adjustments to enemy encounters on Normal difficulty. The official notes don't itemise which bosses changed, so treat the difficulty impressions and level recommendations below as launch-week (pre-1.0.7) — weaknesses, attack tells and rewards are unaffected. See the patch notes tracker.
Ending spoilers. This page names the final boss, its phases and its rewards. Turn back if you want the ending fresh.
Quick answer: There is no weakness to exploit. Parry the flurry combos to fill the stagger meter and shut off the boss's healing, empty the first bar, then let the scripted middle section go — you are meant to lose it. In the final phase a scripted event hands Emma the Blossoms of Reincarnation ability; use it on the openings after enraged swings and the fight ends.

Does the final boss have a weakness?

No. This is the one boss in the game where the elemental prep that carried you through the Nushi hunt does nothing. Game8's boss table lists its weakness as None, and All Things How's fight guide independently states there is no ailment or element that shortcuts the encounter.

That has a practical consequence for your loadout: stop optimising for element matching and optimise for defence and stagger instead. The abilities you have accumulated across the game and your own parry timing are the whole fight. If you have been leaning on elemental arrows and bolts to melt Nushi, expect this one to feel very different.

Every attack: parry or dodge

The boss reuses one core moveset across all three phases, so learning these responses in phase one carries you to the end. Getting parry-versus-dodge wrong is what ends most runs.

AttackCorrect response
Flurry combo — chains up to six hits, sometimes cuts off early✅ Parry every strike
Back step into double slash✅ Parry both — but do not counterattack, there is almost no recovery window
Double projectile slashes — staff raise, two fast projectiles✅ Parry; start as soon as the staff goes up, they travel fast
Crescent projectiles✅ Parry
Triple hit into leap back✅ Parry each slash, then punish the leap with a ranged weapon
Pounce at the end of a completed comboDodge — never try to deflect
Lightning strikesDodge — cannot be parried
AoE slash — steps forward, shakes, strikes, then 360° sweepDodge when the red indicator appears
Laser sweep — horizontal sweep plus a follow-up explosion❌ Extended jump over it, or step straight back. Dodging works but the timing is tight
Poison cloud from its planted weapon❌ Move out of the purple mist — this is your healing window

The flurry combo is deliberately inconsistent and can stop partway through. Keep parrying until the boss commits to the pounce, then roll.

Phase 1 — shut off the healing before you do anything else

The boss opens the fight regenerating its own health. Any damage you deal to the red bar before you stagger it gets healed straight back, so hammering it early just wastes your healing items while the phase drags on.

  1. Fill the yellow stagger meter first. Parries are the fastest way to build it. Use Koo's abilities to accelerate the fill.
  2. Stagger it once to disable the regeneration. This is the real objective of the phase.
  3. Then empty the health bar. The phase does not end at the stagger — you still have to take the full bar down.
  4. Use binding. Koo's Higanbana: Roots Bloom Art is especially effective once regeneration is off; pair it with Entanglement Overdrive on post-parry openings.

Be patient through the rapid staff swipes — openings are short and the boss punishes greedy counterattacks hard.

Next: If your parries are dropping frames rather than missing timing, the problem may be performance, not skill — the best settings guide has the measured FPS cost of every option. Coming in underlevelled instead? The builds guide covers what to slot before Chapter 13.

Phase 2 — you are supposed to lose this

After the first health bar empties and the cutscene plays, the fight transitions into a section where Emma has no abilities and is in a much weaker state. This is the moment that confuses most players into thinking they have made a build mistake.

They have not. Game8 reports this section is a scripted loss, and that even if you manage to win it you receive no additional rewards. Do not burn consumables here. Let it play out and the fight continues.

Phase 3 — Blossoms of Reincarnation

The final phase strips the boss of its special attacks. It keeps most of the earlier moveset but drops into an enraged state far more often, swinging faster and more aggressively. If you learned the rhythm in phase one, this is the most manageable stretch of the three.

The boss begins absorbing your power to grow stronger — and that works in your favour. A scripted event grants Emma the Blossoms of Reincarnation ability, which Game8 notes costs two Entanglement Gauge bars per use. Stay defensive, wait for the openings after enraged swings, and spend the new ability on them.

There is no fourth health bar and no surprise recovery beyond the single reset. When the boss's health empties in this phase, the game moves into its closing sequence.

Where our two sources disagree — and why we're telling you

We do not have an in-game clear of this fight yet, so we cross-referenced two launch guides. They agree on the important things — no weakness, three phases, one health reset, one scripted turn, parry-led — but they describe the phase-one transition differently:

SourceHow phase 1 endsWhat phase 2 is
Game8Stagger to disable HP regeneration, then deplete the full barA scripted loss with no abilities
All Things HowDrop the boss to 50% health, at which point Emma deactivates its Nanite ShieldA full health-bar reset, same moveset

The most likely reading is that these are the same fight counted differently — the shield/regeneration mechanic is one and the same, and the two guides draw the phase boundary on opposite sides of the scripted cutscene. We are flagging it rather than picking a winner. If you have cleared it, tell us what you saw and we will correct this section with your account credited.

Rewards and New Game Plus

Game8 lists the following for the level ∞ encounter:

  • Secret Skill: Rejuvenating Barrier
  • Kanzashi
  • Bestial Memories

Because this is the last fight in the game, none of these can be used on your current run — they only become usable in New Game Plus. If you are chasing the full achievement list, note that one achievement requires clearing a full NG+ run, so this fight is something you will be doing twice. See the New Game Plus guide for what carries over, and the achievements list for what the second run unlocks.

Next: Beaten it? The New Game Plus guide covers what carries into the second run — and the how-long-to-beat page has the realistic completion times now that you know what the ending demands.

FAQ

What is the final boss in Beast of Reincarnation?

The Beast of Reincarnation itself — the titular creature — is the final boss, encountered in Chapter 13. Game8 lists its level as infinite rather than a number, and it is the last fight before the closing sequence.

What is the final boss weak to?

Nothing. Both Game8's boss table and All Things How's fight guide list no elemental weakness. There is no ailment or element that shortcuts the encounter, so it is decided entirely by parry timing, stagger and the abilities you brought in.

How many phases does the final boss have?

Three. The moveset stays broadly the same throughout, but the health bar refills once and one section is scripted. Our two sources describe the phase-one transition differently — see the comparison above.

Why do I have no abilities in the second phase?

That is intended. Game8 reports the second phase is a scripted loss: Emma has no abilities and is deliberately much weaker. Winning it grants no additional rewards, so there is no need to burn healing items there.

What do you get for beating the final boss?

Game8 lists Secret Skill: Rejuvenating Barrier, Kanzashi and Bestial Memories. Because this is the last fight in the game, those rewards can only actually be used in New Game Plus.

Which attacks can't be parried?

The lightning strikes, the AoE slash and the finishing pounce all have to be dodged. The laser sweep is best cleared with an extended jump or a backward step rather than a deflect. Correct those and most of the difficulty disappears.
